The YH-5000SE uses an orthodynamic planar magnetic driver. Bandwidth covers 5 Hz to 70 kHz, for a sensitivity of 98 dB per milliwatt at 1 kHz. The 34 ohm impedance at 1 kHz stays within reach of most amplifiers.
An unbalanced cable ends in 3.5 mm, with a screw-on 6.3 mm adaptor. A second balanced cable takes a 4.4 mm five-pole plug. Both detach at the headphone end, each earcup carrying its own connector.
The housing is open at the back, with no sealed cavity behind the diaphragm. This construction spares the driver an internal air pressure. It does assume quiet listening, since isolation stays low in both directions.
Two sets of earpads come with the headphones, one in perforated leather, the other in suede. A dedicated stand is supplied, in aluminium and copper alloy, 11.8 by 28.3 by 14.6 cm for about 980 grams. The headphones themselves weigh 320 grams.
