60 mm driver of the FiiO FT1 and its pale diaphragm

A wooden diaphragm

The second-generation 60 mm dynamic driver carries a composite diaphragm of wood fibre taken from ninety-year-old Northern European spruce. It measures a tenth of a millimetre thick and the cone weighs just 0.14 grams. Its effective vibrating area gains 25.8 % over the previous generation.

A 25 millimetre voice coil

The voice coil reaches 25 millimetres across, each wire about 0.035 mm. A W-shaped suspension gasket, a U-shaped acoustic damping tube and a conical baffle complete the acoustics. Impedance settles at 32 ohms for 98 dB per milliwatt.

The headphones worn, headband and earpads in place

Ten hertz to forty kilohertz

Frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 40 kHz. The headphones weigh 340 grams without the cable, and earpad pressure is set at 4.5 newtons. The headband slides over 38 millimetres, rotates 35 degrees horizontally and tilts 45 degrees.

Black walnut or beech

The cups come in black walnut or beech, both real timbers. The silver-plated oxygen-free copper cable measures about 1.5 metres and connects with two 3.5 mm plugs. FiiO supplies a 3.5 mm termination, a 4.4 mm balanced termination, a 6.35 mm adapter and a carry pouch.
