The FiiO M33 R2R is an audiophile Android portable music player (DAP) that, for the first time, brings the R2R resistive ladder DAC—designed by FiiO for its desktop devices—to a portable device. Its fully differential 24-bit R2R DAC features four channels comprising a total of 192 thin-film resistors with 0.1% precision, delivering the warm analog sound characteristic of R2R technology combined with balanced and faithful reproduction.
The analog stage delivers up to 1,100 mW + 1,100 mW into 32 ohms in balanced Super High Gain mode, across four gain levels. It utilizes fully differential TI Burr-Brown OPA1637 operational amplifiers and four INA1620s in parallel, Rubycon capacitors, and an NJW1195A volume control. The outputs include 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm headphone jacks, line outputs, coaxial SPDIF, and USB Audio.
The M33 R2R is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC running Android 13, with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage (approximately 112 GB usable), expandable via microSD up to 2 TB. An XMOS XU316 USB interface ensures low-latency USB DAC mode. The display measures 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080x2160. The 10-band parametric equalizer with AUTO EQ and the DAPS system, derived from the M27, refine the sound reproduction.
A 4,400 mAh battery provides approximately 15.5 hours of playback, with low-temperature fast charging (about 1 hour and 30 minutes for a full charge). The 18:9-aspect-ratio chassis weighs 258 g and features a frosted AG glass back. Desktop mode bypasses the battery, and two USB-C ports add versatility. A leather case is included. The M33 R2R is available in retro gold, dark blue, and black.
