Two ES9038PRO

Conversion falls to two ESS ES9038PRO, one per channel, preceded by an XMOS XUF208 USB stage. Low-pass filtering rests on two OPA1612 and volume on two NJU72315 driven by a sampled potentiometer. A linear transformer feeds the whole unit.

THX AAA 788+ amplification

Two THX AAA 788+ modules handle amplification. On the 6.35 mm output the K9 Pro ESS delivers 2.1 watts into 32 ohms and 281 milliwatts into 300 ohms. Balanced, it holds 2.1 watts into 32 ohms and 1.1 watts into 300 ohms.

Rear panel: RCA and XLR line outputs

A hundred and twenty-nine decibels

Signal-to-noise reaches 129 dB single-ended and 123 dB balanced, for distortion of 0.00033 %. Accepted impedances run from 16 to 600 ohms, with three gain levels. The RCA and XLR3 line outputs deliver 2.5 and 5 volts RMS.

Digital and analogue inputs of the K9 Pro ESS

Six inputs

The unit accepts USB-C and USB-B up to 384 kHz at 32-bit and DSD256, a coaxial input, an optical input, an RCA line input and a 4.4 mm balanced input. Bluetooth 5.0 receives over SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive and LDAC, with an indicator showing the codec in use. The chassis measures 200 x 224.5 x 72 mm and weighs 2750 grams.
