The C 588 is designed to keep music playing at the right pace, without the subtle fluctuations that distract from the performance. Its precision AC motor, electronically controlled and fed by an isolated power supply, keeps pitch and timing steady. Speed varies by less than 0.35 % at 33 rpm and less than 0.30 % at 45 rpm.
The 9-inch carbon fibre tonearm, longer than usual, optimises overhang and reduces tracking angle error. It combines a fixed metal headshell, a decoupled counterweight and magnetic anti-skate. Vertical tracking angle and azimuth adjustments, with an alignment gauge included, allow the stylus to be set precisely.
The Ortofon 2M Red cartridge comes factory-fitted, for precise tracking and a nuanced full-range sound. It delivers 5.5 mV into an MM phono input loaded at 47 kΩ, with a recommended tracking force of 18 mN. The detachable RCA cable, with a separate ground wire, connects to the amplifier's phono stage.
The 10 mm glass platter with felt mat, the precision alloy sub-platter, the solid MDF plinth and the carbon tonearm were chosen to work together against spurious vibration. Metal feet with tuned isolation and the thick non-resonant dust cover shield playback from speaker vibration and footfall. The turntable is 43.5 cm wide and 12.5 cm high.
