The PP 4 provides carefully managed gain for both moving-magnet (MM) and moving-coil (MC) cartridges, with 35 dB in MM and 58 dB in MC at 1 kHz. Its RIAA equalisation, accurate to ±0.3 dB, keeps the tonal balance of recordings intact. An infrasonic filter, -14 dB at 5 Hz, limits unwanted very low-frequency movement.
A dedicated USB output connects the PP 4 to a PC or Mac to create digital files from vinyl or cassettes. The signal is converted to 16-bit linear PCM at 48 kHz, and the supplied USB cable is shielded against noise. The recording level control, from 0 to -6 dB, adapts to the dynamics of each record or tape.
A line input takes a cassette deck or another analogue source, so tapes can be archived too. The line-level output connects to amplifiers and receivers that have no phono input. Auto Power Down switches the unit to standby when it is not in use.
The supplied VinylStudio Lite software organises recordings once they reach the computer, with track splitting, file naming and sorting by album. It can also burn audio CDs. The unit measures just 13.5 cm wide and 4.9 cm high.
