An SPU reworked for the TD 124 DD

The SPU TD 124 is a modern reading of the legendary SPU cartridge, carried out by Thorens with Ortofon. The classic SPU design has been refined and optimised for the TD 124 DD. It keeps its sonic character.

Detail of the mechanism

Revised generator, 0.5 mV

The generator system has been revised and delivers 0.5 mV. That higher level eases the demands on step-up transformers and high-gain phono stages. The SPU therefore fits more easily into a current system.

Rear connections

Nude elliptical diamond

The stylus is a highly polished nude elliptical diamond. By sharply reducing the moving mass at the tip, Thorens was able to lower the recommended tracking force while improving tracking. Playback gains precision and control.

The SPU TD 124 weighs 30 grams, in keeping with an SPU body. It is made for the TD 124 DD, which ships with a matched heavier counterweight. The pairing replays the character of radio studios with present-day means.
