The black FiiO FF5 is a wired open earbud with a 14.2 mm dynamic driver and carbon diaphragm, a detachable MMCX cable and interchangeable 3.5 / 4.4 mm plugs.
The FiiO FF5 is a wired open-type earbud fitted with a large 14.2 mm dynamic driver. Its carbon-based diaphragm, combined with a polyurethane surround, stays light while remaining rigid. This combination limits stray driver movement, which reduces non-linear distortion and favours fast transients and detailed treble.
The FF5 adopts a diffuse open design with an acoustic damping device that lets part of the air pressure escape to the outside. Internal reflections and standing waves are thus reduced, for a purer sound. Acoustic resistance tubes lower the resonance at the bottom of the spectrum to extend and texture the bass.
The FF5 shell is machined from an aluminium alloy, a material chosen for its durability and lightness: one earbud weighs only about 3.4 g, enough to be forgotten in the ear. The FF5 comes with non-slip silicone rings in sizes M and L and several sets of foam tips, to adjust the fit and the tonal balance.
The FF5 ships with a detachable cable with MMCX connectors, made of four strands gathering 392 wires of silver-plated monocrystalline copper in Litz braiding, about 1.2 m long. The interchangeable plug system switches from the 3.5 mm single-ended jack to the 4.4 mm balanced one depending on the source. The detachable cable also allows it to be replaced when worn.
