14.2 mm dynamic driver

The FiiO FF5 is a wired open-style earbud fitted with a large 14.2 mm dynamic driver. Its carbon-based diaphragm, paired with a polyurethane surround, stays light while remaining rigid. That combination limits stray movement of the driver, which lowers non-linear distortion and favours fast transients and detailed treble.

Diffuse open design

The FF5 adopts a diffuse open design with an acoustic damping arrangement that lets part of the air pressure escape outwards. Internal reflections and standing waves are reduced as a result, for a purer sound. Acoustic resistance tubes lower the resonance in the low end in order to extend and texture the bass.

Aluminium chassis and comfort

The shell of the FF5 is machined from an aluminium alloy, a material chosen for its durability and its light weight: one earbud weighs only around 3.4 g, little enough to be forgotten in the ear. The FF5 is supplied with non-slip silicone rings in sizes M and L as well as several sets of foams, to adjust the hold and the tonal balance.

MMCX cable and interchangeable plugs

The FF5 comes with a detachable cable on MMCX connectors, made of four strands gathering 392 silver-plated monocrystalline copper wires in a Litz braid, over roughly 1.2 m. The interchangeable plug system moves from the 3.5 mm single-ended jack to the 4.4 mm balanced one according to the source. The detachable cable also allows it to be replaced once worn.
