Empyrean uses an oval Rinaro Isodynamic Hybrid driver based on Isoplanar technology. Its diaphragm is split into two zones: the mid and treble area sits right in front of the ear canal, the bass area beside it. Mids and highs are therefore kept clear of bass resonances, across a response of 4 Hz to 110 kHz.
The skeleton is milled for several hours from a solid block of aluminium. The headphones are made of 16 parts assembled by hand, with no glue or welding, and each one can be replaced. The carbon headband and omega-shaped leather strap spread the roughly 430 g across the whole head.
At 31.6 ohms and 100 dB for 1 mW at 1 kHz, Empyrean needs little power. It can be played straight from a high-resolution portable player, with no amplifier in between. The cable connects on each side through a 4-pin mini-XLR socket.
