Empyrean II uses Rinaro's MZ3 Isodynamic Hybrid Array driver, an ovoid planar unit measuring 102 x 73 mm. Its diaphragm has two coils: a switchback coil in the upper part handles the bass, while a spiral coil centred over the ear canal sends mids and highs straight into the ear. Harmonic distortion stays below 0.05% across the whole audible range.
The Rinaro Isoplanar diaphragm weighs 0.16 g for an active area of 4650 mm². Neodymium magnets on both sides drive it evenly across its entire surface. Meze tuned it for more detail and a more neutral balance than the original Empyrean, keeping its easy-going character from 8 Hz to 110 kHz.
The frame is CNC-milled and finished in matte black with silver accents. Its structure keeps weight and pressure on the head low and adapts to its shape. The complete headphone weighs 449 g, which keeps long listening sessions comfortable.
Two pairs of ear pads are supplied. The Duo pads combine leather and Alcantara: the leather supports the bass, the Alcantara adds refinement and space. The Angled Alcantara pads, with their slanted interior, leave more air in front of the ear for cleaner bass and a more present midrange. Rinaro's Isomagnetic magnetic attachment makes swapping them very easy.
