The 109 PRO Primal is a special edition of the 109 PRO, named Headphone of the Year 2023/2024 by EISA, and belongs to Meze Audio's Art Gallery collection. It explores organic shapes and gives the open-back model sculpted ear cups that tell a story of craftsmanship. Its name refers to the meeting of high-end sound and the raw material of nature.
Each wooden frame is carved groove by groove, then carefully sanded for a very smooth feel. A linseed oil finish gives the wood a natural matte texture that brings out its grain and original colour. This craft comes from the Maramureș region, where the Meze Audio team learned early on to respect the forests around it.
The 109 PRO Primal uses a 50 mm dynamic driver with a frequency response of 5 Hz to 30 kHz. Its impedance is 40 Ω and its sensitivity reaches 112 dB at 1 kHz for 1 mW. With its black walnut ear cups, the headphone weighs 375 g.
The headphones come with two soft TPE cables of 1.5 m and 3 m, terminated with a 3.5 mm jack. A gold-plated 6.3 mm jack adapter lets you plug them into a 6.3 mm headphone socket. A hard EVA case protects them on the move.
