Cabasse unveiled La Sphère Evo for its 75th anniversary, as a numbered edition. It takes the sphere of the original La Sphère and turns it into an active, connected stereo system, with no extra amplifier or cable needed. Each speaker stands 134.2 cm tall, measures 62 cm in diameter and weighs 60 kg. The sphere and base wear a five-layer matte black lacquer, the Lissajous stand is mirror-polished chrome and the foot is machined aluminium.
The TCA, an aramid-diaphragm tri-coaxial driver carried over from the original La Sphère, is driven here by the latest generation of DSP. It covers three bands on one axis: 170 to 900 Hz, 900 to 3400 Hz and 3400 to 27,000 Hz. Bass goes to two patented 30 cm HELD drivers mounted push-push, reaching down to 10 Hz at -6 dB. 3D-printed stainless steel grilles protect them.
All the electronics sit in the base of each speaker. Five amplifiers work there: four of 1200 W RMS for the two woofers, the low midrange and the high midrange, and one of 300 W RMS for the treble. The stereo system totals 10,200 W RMS, reaches 127 dB and uses an AKM4493 DAC for conversion. Each speaker is then tested one by one in the anechoic chamber of the Cabasse workshops in Brittany.
The speakers connect over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and are Roon Ready. The main unit has an HDMI eARC port, an S/PDIF optical input, an RCA input and a balanced XLR input, and a USB port plays audio files, from MP3 to FLAC, ALAC and DSD 64/128. CRCS automatic calibration adapts the response to the room, up to 200 m², and DFE mode keeps the dynamics at low volume. The StreamCONTROL app adjusts the tonal balance and manages multiroom.
