The Abyss combines a stereo amplifier and a network player in a 3.5 kg satin black aluminium case. Its Class D stage delivers 2 x 120 W into 8 ohms and 2 x 215 W into 4 ohms. Cabasse reuses the amplification technology of The Pearl Pelegrina, the brand's flagship connected system.
The front has a colour LCD touchscreen, ringed by a rotary volume dial. It shows the cover art being played, switches sources and manages favourite radio stations without going through the app. Cabasse says the interface will evolve with updates, like the app.
On the TV side, the Abyss takes the sound through its TV input, with a 1.5 m HDMI cable and a 2 m optical cable supplied. It also accepts a stereo RCA analogue input, an S/PDIF optical input and a USB 2.0 port for a stick or a drive. The manual also lists a subwoofer output and a headphone socket on the front.
The network player connects over Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi, and also receives Bluetooth 4.2 and AirPlay. It plays files up to 24 bit/192 kHz as well as DSD 64 and 128, from Qobuz, Deezer, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect or a NAS. In the StreamCONTROL app, the Abyss groups with the other Cabasse connected systems to form listening zones.
