The S6 Black Edition gets a piano black wooden front panel, a black gun metal finish and updated lettering. The circuit has been revised in the signal path and power management, and output rises to 40 W, 15% more than the standard model. The chassis measures 35 x 49 x 22 cm and weighs 25 kg, and an infrared remote control is supplied.
Dual mono amplification relies on three KT77 Gold Lion valves in parallel per channel, in triple single-ended, with two ECC83 Gold Lion for the input stage. The output valves run in pure Class A, in ultralinear mode with a 20% tap. The output transformer, wound in seven sections, is designed for maximum power transfer into 6 ohms.
Cathode Capacitor Less technology removes the cathode capacitor and resistor from the output valves, which are biased by a dedicated negative grid supply, with no auto-bias. Bass therefore extends without phase shift or colouration, with a bandwidth of 15 Hz to 30 kHz at -1 dB. Bias is adjustable for each output valve, and the amplifier stays as noiseless as a solid-state design.
The internal DAC3, based on a Sabre ES9018K2M, adds to the four RCA line inputs a USB input handling PCM up to 384 kHz, native DSD up to 256x and DoP up to 128x, plus Toslink and S/PDIF inputs up to 192 kHz. Sources are switched by micro relays with gold-plated silver contacts and Return GND technology. An unfiltered subwoofer output completes the set, and the valves have a 3-month warranty.
