The NEO iDSD 3 relies on a custom DAC stage built around a Burr-Brown chip, chosen for its natural sound. The architecture routes PCM and DSD through separate paths and maintains bit-perfect signal through conversion, with support for PCM 768 kHz and DSD512. The balanced dual-mono PureWave topology shortens signal paths for very low noise and distortion.

The amplification stage derives from the iDSD Diablo 2 and delivers peak power exceeding 5,551 mW (2,532 mW RMS), enough to drive the most demanding headphones. Headphone outputs are available in 4.4 mm balanced and 6.3 mm, with output impedance under 1 ohm and iEMatch circuit for very sensitive models.

Bluetooth 5.4 supports aptX Lossless for lossless CD-quality audio, as well as LDAC and LHDC. JVCKENWOOD's K2HD technology restores harmonic content lost during digitization and returns recordings to their warmth and depth.

The NEO iDSD 3 functions as both a headphone amplifier and preamplifier for active speakers. An RCA input accepts line-level sources, including a turntable with line output. Analog adjustments for XBass, XSpace and Presence, four gain levels and adjustable LED brightness adapt the unit. An iPower2 supply, remote control and vertical stand are included.
