Dual AK4493SEQ converter

The FiiO K7 BT is a desktop DAC and headphone amplifier. Each channel has its own AKM AK4493SEQ converter, for symmetrical handling of the left and right sides. An XMOS XUF208 decoder with dual clock management supports many audio formats up to high resolution, on the USB, optical, coaxial and RCA inputs.

THX AAA 788+ amplification stage of the FiiO K7 BT

THX AAA 788+ amplification

The amplification stage takes up THX AAA 788+ technology, already used on the K9 Pro. The K7 BT delivers around 2000 mW into 32 Ohms from the balanced output and 1220 mW into 32 Ohms single-ended, with harmonic distortion below 1 per cent. Two hardware gain levels and a 112-step volume control, rebuilt by an ADC curve, refine the setting to suit the headphones.

Inputs, outputs and construction

The K7 BT gathers USB, optical, coaxial and RCA inputs, along with 6.35 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced headphone outputs. One button switches between three output modes: headphones, active speakers or DAC alone. The CNC-machined aluminium alloy casing carries RGB indicators and is fed by a low-noise external 12 V supply with independent LDO regulation stages.

High-definition Bluetooth reception

The K7 BT version adds the Qualcomm QCC5124 Bluetooth chip and support for the LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, aptX LL, AAC and SBC codecs over Bluetooth 5.1. Switching the input to Bluetooth brings low-latency wireless transmission and high-resolution playback. The FiiO Control app allows the codec to be chosen, a parametric equaliser to be set and the Bluetooth firmware to be updated.
