The receiver plugs into the rear of the REL subwoofer through a DB9 connector locked by two knurled screws, so vibration cannot work it loose. It draws its power from the subwoofer itself and needs no extra mains adaptor. Two switches are all it needs: on/off and pairing.
Arrow uses neither Bluetooth nor Wi-Fi but a dedicated link on the 2.4 GHz band, less crowded than the 5.8 GHz band used by most devices in the home. The signal travels without digital compression and without noticeable delay, preserving the speed and musicality of a wired subwoofer. REL has produced it continuously for around a dozen years.
The transmitter takes the High Level cable on a locking Speakon socket and, at the same time, the home cinema .1/LFE signal. The subwoofer therefore keeps its High Level connection for music and its .1/LFE input for films, with REL's own Natural RollOff curve. The transmitter is powered by a supplied 5 V DC adaptor.
Arrow is designed for Serie T/x and Serie T/i subwoofers, on whose rear panel the receiver sits flush; it is not compatible with the Tzero MKIII. It lets the subwoofer go where it sounds best, in a corner, against a glass wall or on a wooden floor, with no cable across the room and a range of 15.2 m with a clear line of sight. Installation comes down to plugging in both units and flipping two switches.
