The AMP 10 packs sixteen amplifier channels into a single chassis, each rated at 200 W into 8 ohms and 400 W into 4 ohms. Even with five channels driven at once, every channel still holds 200 W into 8 ohms. One unit is therefore enough for a sixteen-speaker home cinema, ceiling speakers included. It is designed as the foundation of a system built around the AV 10 processor from the same series.
For the AMP 10, Marantz developed custom Class D amplifiers paired with its HDAM-SA2 modules built from discrete components. A toroidal transformer supplies the input stage, while a high-current switch-mode supply feeds the output stages. The copper-plated chassis, double-layer bottom plate and extensive shielding keep interference away from the circuits. The unit is built at the Marantz factory in Shirakawa, Japan.
Each channel takes either an RCA or a balanced XLR input, chosen with a selector on the rear panel; XLR keeps noise down on long cable runs. Bi-Amp mode drives the bass and treble sections of a speaker separately, while BTL mode bridges two channels into a single 400 W channel into 8 ohms. All sixteen outputs use Marantz SPKT-1+ speaker terminals.
Behind the Marantz porthole on the front panel, an analogue meter tracks the output level, framed by soft side lighting. For integration, the AMP 10 provides an RS-232C port, an IR flasher input, the Marantz Remote Bus and a DC trigger input and output. It draws 500 W in operation, 140 W at idle with no signal and 0.2 W in standby, with automatic power-off. The chassis measures 443 mm wide, 489 mm deep and 189 mm high, and weighs 19.8 kg.
