The MODEL M1 takes its music straight from the network, with no extra player needed. HEOS Built-in, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth 4.2 open up Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music or TuneIn, all controlled from the HEOS app. Dual-band Wi-Fi or Ethernet links it to the network, and it also plays files from a NAS or a USB stick up to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD 5.6 MHz.
Connected to the TV's HDMI eARC socket, the MODEL M1 replaces a soundbar with a proper pair of speakers. It decodes Dolby Digital+ and Dolby Digital, and the TV remote handles its volume and standby. Dialogue Enhancer makes voices easier to follow at low volume, while Virtual mode widens the stage of stereo content.
The digital power stage delivers 100 W per channel into 8 ohms and 125 W into 4 ohms, at 0.05% distortion. The 4-way binding posts accept speakers from 4 to 16 ohms, and a mono RCA subwoofer output turns the system into a 2.1 setup, with high-pass filters from 40 to 250 Hz and low-pass filters from 40 to 120 Hz. Marantz Musical Digital Filtering (MMDF) refines timbre and detail ahead of the amplifier.
The casing measures 21.7 cm wide, 23.9 cm deep and 8.4 cm high, and weighs 2.2 kg. An RCA input takes a CD player or a turntable fitted with a phono preamp, and a TOSLINK optical input handles another digital source. The 3.5 mm IR input, IR learning and Crestron, Control4 and AMX compatibility make it easy to fit into a controlled installation.
