The Primus places a 5.25-inch woofer below two coaxial drivers, each pairing a 0.75-inch tweeter with a 3-inch midrange. Three amplifier stages drive the set: 2 × 20 W, 2 × 20 W and 1 × 40 W RMS at 1 % THD. The wooden cabinet, the bass reflex port and the DSP work together on the low end. Sonoro specifies it for rooms up to 25 m².
The Primus leaves out the CD drive and concentrates on disc-free sources. The tuner picks up FM and DAB+, while the network side opens more than 25,000 internet radio stations and a dedicated podcast mode. Spotify Connect, Amazon Music and Deezer run directly on the unit, which joins Wi-Fi through a supplied external antenna.
The headphone socket sits on the front, within easy reach. aptX Bluetooth receives audio from a smartphone and can also send it to wireless headphones. Further connections include an optical input for the TV, an RCA line input, a 3.5 mm AUX jack and an RCA line output. The 5 V/2.1 A USB port is for charging a phone only.
The front panel is real aluminium, the control knobs metal. The hand-sanded, lacquered wooden cabinet measures 450 × 153 × 258 mm and weighs 6.7 kg. A row of direct-selection buttons, the remote and the OKTIV app share the controls, and the display dims itself. Five finishes are available, including a gloss chalk grey.
