Low-output moving coil

The TAS 1600 is a low-output MC cartridge, at 0.4 mV under 5.5 cm/s. Its internal impedance of 12 ohms calls for a load above 100 ohms on a good MC phono stage.

Detail of the mechanism

Solid boron and Line Contact diamond

The solid boron cantilever pairs with a Special Line Contact diamond, whose cut meets the groove over a tall contact area. That geometry brings out the finest detail and spreads the bearing pressure. Resolution goes up.

Rear connections

Resonance-optimised aluminium body

The aluminium body is optimised against resonance, which keeps signal transmission clean and controlled. The carefully tuned generator opens a wide stage and holds the dynamics.

The TAS 1600 was designed in Japan specifically for the Thorens TD 1600 and TD 1601. It weighs 8.2 grams. On those decks it works with the TP 160 arm and the balanced connection.
