The Minorca MC40 fits three ways into a cabinet 40 cm tall, 23 cm wide and 28 cm deep, weighing 8.5 kg. A BC10 coaxial driver handles the midrange and treble, a 17 cm driver the bass. It goes on a shelf or on a stand, and is sold individually, in brushed black or white oak.
At the centre of the BC10, a 2.7 cm dome sits inside a 12 cm annular midrange: midrange and treble start from the same point. Cabasse developed it with the solutions chosen for the midrange and treble of La Sphère, its reference system. The brand calls the principle SCS, for spatially coherent source, and expects a deep, realistic soundstage from it.
Bass is handled by a 17 cm 17MD18LB1 driver. Its Duocell cone, designed by Cabasse and made by its own robots, follows an exponential profile with variable thickness: light, stiff and well damped. It gets the most out of long-throw motors with a high force factor, which keeps the bass quick and precise.
The crossover hands over at 900 Hz and again at 3,200 Hz, with slopes of 6 to 24 dB per octave. Cabasse tunes it from anechoic chamber measurements, on axis and over 360°, then through listening sessions in rooms with different acoustics. The speaker is rated at 89 dB sensitivity and 8 ohms nominal, 3.3 ohms minimum, and takes 75 W continuous, 550 W peak.
