The transducer measures 106 mm in diameter. Its ultra-thin diaphragm is driven across its entire surface by an array of N50 neodymium magnets, rather than by a coil glued at its centre as in a dynamic driver: the diaphragm moves as one piece, without the breakup modes that colour the midrange. Frequency response spans 10 Hz to 50 kHz and total harmonic distortion stays below 0.1% at 100 dB.
The LCD-2 Classic revives the magnetic architecture of the earliest Audeze models: the magnets sit offset on either side of the diaphragm, without Fazor waveguides. This offset frees the airflow behind the diaphragm and widens the stereo image. The result is the warm, settled timbre that made the LCD-2's name.
The earcup rings are moulded in glass-filled nylon, with metal outer grilles. The headphones weigh 544 g, spread by a steel spring suspension headband that ventilates the top of the head. Each unit is hand-assembled in Santa Ana, California.
70 ohms and 101 dB per 1 mW: the LCD-2 Classic calls for a real headphone amplifier. Audeze states a 100 mW minimum and recommends above 250 mW; the transducer handles 5 W RMS and exceeds 130 dB. The 1.9 m braided cable ends in a balanced 4-pin XLR, with a 6.35 mm adapter included in the carrying case.
