The LCD-MX4's housing is made of magnesium and the headband of carbon: this construction removes about 30% of the weight of other models in the LCD series. The headphone comes down to 575 grams, a figure that matters over a multi-hour mastering session.
The patented dual-magnet Fluxor structure from Audeze combines N50 neodymium magnets with a 106 mm planar magnetic transducer. Fazor technology corrects phase response inside the earcup and widens the frequency range, from 10 Hz to 50 kHz, with distortion under 0.1% at 100 dB.
With an impedance of 20 ohms and a sensitivity of 105 dB/1mW, the LCD-MX4 can be driven directly from a laptop or a mixing console, without an additional headphone amplifier. Power handling reaches 5 W RMS, for a maximum SPL above 130 dB.
The carbon and leather headband combined with memory foam earpads holds the headphone in place without clamping. The LCD-MX4 comes with a 1.9-metre cable terminated in a 6.35 mm jack plug and two 4-pin mini-XLR connectors, a carrying case and its certificate of authenticity.
