The DHT-S517 spreads seven drivers across a centre channel, left, right and two ceiling-facing channels. These upward-firing drivers bounce Dolby Atmos effects off the ceiling to give the soundstage height. The supplied wireless subwoofer handles the “.1”.
The decoder accepts Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus. Music, movie and Pure modes tailor the processing to what is playing. Night mode keeps the level in check late in the evening.
The Denon Dialog Enhancer brings voices forward in scenes packed with effects and music. Dialogue in an action film or series stays intelligible without raising the overall volume. The bar can also learn the codes of the TV remote.
An HDMI input and an eARC output place the bar between a player and the TV. Optical input, 3.5 mm mini-jack and Bluetooth complete the connections. At 1050 mm long and 60 mm tall, it sits on a cabinet or mounts on the wall.
