Tonearm and glass platter of the Planar 8 turntable

RB880 tonearm

The Planar 8 receives the RB880 arm, which Rega presents as a precision arm. The platter stacks three layers of glass and behaves like a flywheel. The EBLT Reference drive belt is fitted as standard and speeds of 33 1/3 and 45 rpm are selectable.

Plinth and Neo PSU supply

The plinth is built around a Tancast 8 foam core stiffened by double brace technology. The turntable is held to 4.2 kg for 420 x 125 x 315 mm, dust cover in place. The matched Neo PSU power supply is supplied, in a case of 180 x 50 x 155 mm and 0.6 kg.

Miniature iron cross

The Ania ranks among the smallest moving coil generators on the market, built around a miniature iron cross. Its coils are wound in 0.018 mm wire, facing high-power neodymium magnets. Nominal output voltage stands at 350 µV for an output impedance of 10 Ω.

Elliptical diamond and settings

The elliptical profile diamond is carried by an aluminium cantilever. Tracking force is set between 1.75 and 2.00 g. On the preamplifier side, 100 Ω of loading and 1000 pF are needed, with gain on the high setting on the brand's phono stages. The cartridge accompanies the turntable without being pre-fitted to the arm.
