For the brand's 25th anniversary, Unison Research completely redesigned the Triode 20 and named it Triode 25. Its development took a long design and testing period, despite the experience gained with its predecessor. The chassis measures 30 x 45 x 20 cm and weighs 20 kg, with an infrared remote control for volume.
Four EL34 in ultralinear push-pull, in Class AB, handle the amplification, preceded by two ECC83 and one ECC82. In pentode mode the Triode 25 delivers over 45 W per channel into 6 ohms, with very low harmonic distortion across the whole audio band. Output impedance is 6 ohms and maximum power consumption is 300 W.
A switch on the top moves the output valves from pentode to triode mode, which lowers the power to 25 W per channel. Bias is set using the built-in meter, and negative feedback can be chosen between 5 dB and 1.8 dB. These settings let the amplifier be matched to the loudspeakers and to personal taste.
The amplifier has four line inputs, one of them a tape input, at 47 kΩ / 50 pF, plus a USB DAC input for a computer. A tape output and a stereo RCA subwoofer output complete the connections. The valves are covered by a 3-month warranty.
