The American magazine The Absolute Sound named the Absolute 845 its product of the year in 1994. More than twenty years later it still ranked first among tube amplifiers in that listing, with a higher score than any other amplifier. Unison Research points out that no other audio product has stayed at the top of its category for so long.
The Absolute 845 SE is a stereo integrated amplifier built as dual mono, with a separate circuit for each channel. Its parallel single-ended output stages work in class A and deliver 40 W per channel, for 4 to 8 Ω loudspeakers. Feedback is limited to 10 dB.
Five line inputs and two tape inputs, with an impedance of 47 kΩ, take the sources. Two tape outputs allow recording, and the loudspeaker outputs accept bi-wiring.
The power section relies on four 845 triodes, supported by six ECC82 and two ECC83. Frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 30 kHz and power consumption reaches 700 VA. The amplifier measures 80 x 60 x 28 cm (W x D x H) and weighs 90 kg, with a 2-year warranty and 3 months on the tubes.
