The Black Edition of the Triode 25 features a piano black wooden front panel, a black gun metal finish and updated lettering. Unison Research reworked the circuit in the signal path and power supply to lower distortion and raise power. The chassis measures 30 x 45 x 20 cm and weighs 20 kg, and an infrared remote control is supplied.
The four KT77 Gold Lion valves run in ultralinear push-pull, in Class AB, preceded by two ECC83 and one ECC82 Gold Lion, all carefully matched. Output reaches 50 W in pentode mode and 30 W in triode mode into 6 ohms, 10% and 20% more than the original Triode 25. The power supply decouples the anode voltage of each valve and adds polypropylene capacitors for livelier transients.
The output valves switch from ultralinear mode, with a 60% tap, to triode mode, with a more characterful tone and more measured power. The fixed bias remains partially adjustable by the user, to keep the valves in their best operating range. Negative feedback is selectable between 10 dB and 12 dB, and the bandwidth extends from 10 Hz to 50 kHz at -1 dB.
The internal DAC3, based on a Sabre ES9018K2M, adds a USB input handling PCM up to 384 kHz, native DSD up to 256x and DoP up to 128x, plus Toslink and S/PDIF inputs up to 192 kHz. The three RCA line inputs are switched by micro relays with gold-plated silver contacts and Return GND technology. The rear panel offers a line output and an unfiltered subwoofer output, and the valves have a 3-month warranty.
