The DAC Box RS Final Edition is the last production run of this reference converter, available in limited numbers from selected dealers. It is fitted with two selected and matched high-end ECC88 Diamond tubes. The other components were carefully selected and the internal wiring improved. The case comes in silver or black.
Two output stages can be switched to suit taste and music: an ECC88 tube stage with a warm, relaxed character, or a Class A solid-state stage that is more detailed and dynamic. Distortion is 0.005% on the solid-state output and 0.25% on the tube output. The XLR and RCA outputs deliver up to 4 and 2 Veff.
Conversion relies on two Texas Instruments PCM-1792 chips in an 8 x oversampling design. The DAC accepts PCM up to 24-bit/192 kHz, with the optical input limited to 96 kHz, and DSD up to DSD128. Two digital filters, steep and optimum phase, fine-tune the presentation.
The rear panel gathers two coaxial S/PDIF inputs, four optical TOSlink inputs, an asynchronous USB B input, an AES/EBU input and an I²S input intended for the CD Box RS. A BNC clock output synchronises that player. The unit measures 20.6 cm wide, 7.2 cm high and 20 cm deep, weighs 1.89 kg and is operated with the supplied infrared remote control.
