The Hegel D50 is the Norwegian brand’s reference digital-to-analog converter. It features the latest generation of DAC chips, powered by a circuit designed entirely in-house to reproduce every nuance of the signal. Its wide dynamic range and low noise floor create a spacious and detailed soundstage.

S/PDIF and USB signals are re-clocked by three dedicated master clocks: one for S/PDIF, and two for USB frequencies at 48 kHz and 44.1 kHz. This process reduces jitter and timing errors prior to conversion. The AES/EBU input uses a transformer-balanced RS422 receiver, which is insensitive to both weak and strong signals.

Two low-noise toroidal transformers isolate the power supply for the digital circuits from that of the sensitive analog circuits. Filters on the AC input block out noise from the power grid. The noise floor typically drops to -150 dB, with distortion below 0.0002%.

The D50 features AES/EBU, BNC coaxial, RCA coaxial, two optical, and USB 32/384 inputs with support for DSD256 and MQA. The balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs deliver 2.5 V to accommodate any system. The aluminum chassis and milled front panel house a clear display and signal detection that wakes the device.
