The BR13 adds Bluetooth reception to an existing system or amplifier. Its Qualcomm QCC5125 chip handles Bluetooth 5.2 and six codecs, among them LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX LL, aptX and SBC. Multipoint connection links two source devices at the same time, and the external aerial holds the link up to 30 metres.

Decoding rests on an ESS ES9018K2M converter paired with a TPA1882 operational amplifier. Five low-noise LDO regulators, an overvoltage protection chip and a 100 MHz oscillator steady the power supply. The signal-to-noise ratio reaches 114 dB A-weighted and distortion stays below 0.0006 per cent.

Beyond Bluetooth, the BR13 works as a USB DAC up to 96 kHz/24-bit and accepts optical and coaxial inputs, the latter up to 192 kHz/24-bit. The RCA, optical and coaxial line outputs deliver 2 Vrms. SPDIF bypass mode passes an optical or coaxial signal straight through without re-plugging the cables.

A 1.1-inch backlit LCD screen shows the codec, the equaliser and the operating mode. Five equalisation presets and a ten-band parametric equaliser are set from the FiiO Control app, which also brings OTA updates. Internal upsampling takes signals up to 96 kHz/24-bit, and the compact aluminium alloy chassis sits easily on a desk.
