The Head Box E measures 10.3 cm wide, 3.7 cm high and 12 cm deep, and weighs 390 g. Its all-metal enclosure shields it from electromagnetic interference and vibration. The front panel and controls are machined aluminium, finished in silver or black.
The circuit uses no integrated chip and relies instead on discrete components laid out on a carefully designed board. It delivers 665 mW into 32 ohms and accepts headphones from 8 to 600 ohms, including hard-to-drive models. THD+N stays below 0.005% and the response extends from 20 Hz to 80 kHz at ± 0.2 dB. This construction also makes servicing and repair easier over the years.
The front panel brings together a 6.3 mm jack for hi-fi headphones and a 3.5 mm socket for portable headphones and earphones. Both outputs work at the same time, so two people can listen together. An output impedance below 1 ohm and 11 dB of gain round off the specification.
On the back, a pair of RCA sockets accepts a line-level source. A second RCA pair passes the signal on to another amplifier, so the Head Box E slots into an existing system. The 5 V / 0.5 A DC outboard power supply draws less than 0.5 W in standby.
