Playmate 3 on a gaming desk

ESS9039 converter

The Playmate 3 pairs the ESS9039 converter with a high-current headphone amplifier and a remote-controlled preamp. It plays files up to 768 kHz and DSD512. It shares the Conductor GT4 conversion stage in a more compact form.

Class-A headphone amplifier

Three watts in Class A

The headphone amplifier runs on a 30 W idle current and delivers 3 W per channel in single-ended Class A. That current keeps the transistors in their linear zone. It leads gaming headsets as well as hi-fi headphones.

Gaming microphone input

Gaming mic input

A dedicated microphone input takes a gaming headset's mic, without a separate sound card. An optical Toslink input joins the USB link. The remote-controlled preamp sets the volume from a distance.

V7 opamps and upgrades

Swappable V7 opamps

DIP8 sockets hold the discrete V7 opamps, swappable by hand to adjust the rendering. Silent Power modules can be added to lower noise further. The Cool Case chassis dissipates heat without a fan.
