The Prelude is built around a balanced class A MOSFET design able to supply high current. It delivers 10 W into 32 ohms, 2.5 W into 150 ohms and 560 mW into 600 ohms. Its chassis is cut from a single block of aluminium to limit resonance.
The Prelude circuit uses discrete components rather than integrated circuits. A stage converts unbalanced RCA inputs into a balanced signal. THD+N drops to 0.0009% at low gain and the signal-to-noise ratio reaches -113 dB.
Volume runs through an ALPS Quad Balance potentiometer for accurate channel balance. An OLED display shows input, output and gain, which has two settings. On the back, RCA and XLR preamp outputs sit alongside the RCA and XLR inputs.
