Network sources and services

The NSS 333 gives access to Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready, AirPlay 2, Chromecast, UPnP and internet radio. It connects over 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet or 802.11ac Wi-Fi, with the antenna housed in the heatsink, and BLE 4.2 Bluetooth completes the set. Multiroom mode synchronises up to six Naim streamers in one installation. The Focal & Naim app handles browsing and control from iOS or Android.

High-resolution formats

WAV files play up to 32 bit/384 kHz, FLAC, AIFF and ALAC up to 24 bit/384 kHz, and DSD streams at 64 and 128 Fs. Digital processing is handled by a 40-bit floating-point SHARC DSP. Digital distortion is quoted at 0.002% at 0 dBFS and 1 kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 108 dB. The digital bandwidth extends from 3 Hz to 27 kHz at -3 dB.

Digital and analogue connections

Two TOSLINK optical inputs accept up to 24 bit/96 kHz, while the RCA and BNC coaxial inputs reach 24 bit/192 kHz and handle DoP 64 Fs. A coaxial BNC digital output passes the signal on at up to 24 bit/192 kHz. On the analogue side, an XLR pair, an RCA pair and a 5-pin DIN socket deliver 2.1 Vrms. Two USB type A ports, front and rear, supply 1.6 A.

Colour display and remote

A 5.5-inch colour display and four buttons give access to standby, playback, inputs and favourites. The Zigbee RF4CE remote control needs no line of sight, and a 3.5 mm optical output synchronises power-on of a NAP 250 or NAP 350. The unit measures 43.2 × 31.75 × 9.15 cm, weighs 11 kg and draws 25 W in everyday use. The NPX 300 external power supply remains available as an upgrade.
