The front of the RS130 is taken up by a 15.4-inch LCD touchscreen with 1920 x 382 pixels, which shows album art and videos. The ROSE OS system, based on Android 7.1, brings together TIDAL, Qobuz, Apple Music, internet radio and podcasts. The ROSE Connect app controls the same library from a phone, a tablet or a computer.
The RS130 does not convert the signal: it hands it to an external DAC through an optical, coaxial, AES/EBU or I2S over HDMI output. It plays PCM from 8 to 768 kHz at 32-bit, native DSD up to DSD512 and MQA. An HDMI 2.0 output sends 4K video at 60 Hz to a television or projector at the same time.
Under the lid, the linear power supply relies on a high-capacity supercapacitor that brings supply noise down to battery level. The 10 MHz OCXO clock, held at a constant temperature, times the digital output and reduces jitter. Two BNC inputs at 50 and 75 Ω also accept an external 10 MHz master clock.
The SFP Ethernet port takes the supplied copper module or a fibre-optic module, which isolates the unit from the noise of network equipment. A fibre-optic USB 3.0 socket does the same for a drive, next to two USB 3.0 ports and a SATA bay. The 256 GB NVMe SSD caches the music, in an aluminium case measuring 43 x 31.7 x 12.5 cm and weighing 12 kg.
