The MDC2 BluOS-D slides into an MDC2 slot on the back of a compatible NAD amplifier: C 399, C 389, C 379 or C 3050. The MDC2 architecture lets module and component communicate in both directions, so new functions can be added without changing amplifier.
The module gives access to over 20 streaming services, several of them lossless and high-resolution, and to hundreds of Internet radio stations. Playback goes up to 24-bit/192 kHz with MQA decoding and rendering. Music can be shared with up to 63 other BluOS devices on the network, including the sources connected to the amplifier.
Dirac Live measures the room acoustics with the supplied calibrated microphone, then uploads correction filters to the module. Correction works up to 500 Hz, where room modes cause the most trouble, and a full-bandwidth licence is available as an option. Five profiles can be stored, for example by listening position or with the curtains open or closed.
The module connects over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and supports Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect. aptX HD Bluetooth works both ways, receiving and sending, and a USB port plays music stored on an external drive. The BluOS Controller app, Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri voice control and Crestron, Control4, Lutron and RTI systems handle playback.
