The FiiO R9 is an Android desktop audio streamer with two ES9038PRO DACs and a THX AAA 788+ headphone amplifier. It decodes DSD512 over USB and supports AirPlay, Roon Ready, HDMI ARC and ten operating modes.

The R9 combines the streamer, DAC, headphone amplifier and preamplifier in a single case. Its 6-inch screen (1080 x 2160) runs in portrait format under Android. Ten modes cover Android, Pure Music, USB DAC, Bluetooth receiver, AirPlay, Roon Ready, the coaxial, optical and HDMI inputs, plus HDMI ARC for TV sound.
One ES9038PRO DAC handles each channel, left and right. Each chip combines eight independent converters wired in parallel for a fully differential output. Over USB, the R9 decodes up to 768 kHz/32 bit and native DSD512, with full MQA decoding.
Eight THX AAA 788+ channels form the headphone stage, grouped in pairs for a symmetrical four-way structure. The balanced output reaches 7300 mW per channel into 32 Ω, 102% more than the R7. Five gain levels suit in-ear monitors as well as hard-to-drive headphones.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor runs Android, with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, about 46 GB of it available. You install your streaming apps, and the microSD slot accepts up to 2 TB in theory. Dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi and the 100M Ethernet port connect the R9 to the network, with DLNA, AirPlay and Roon Ready.
