The Reference takes the Dark Star and doubles the lower plane. This is not a matter of looks: two stacked plates put more mass and more stiffness against vibration coming up from the support. Transrotor reports quieter running and more readily available dynamics.
Chassis, platter and clamp are POM, the last with brass. The material is demanding to machine, and that is exactly what Transrotor asks of it: tight tolerances on parts that damp rather than return. The platter turns in a bearing block developed for it.
46 cm wide, 34 deep, 22 high, 30 kg. The five centimetres and six kilos that separate it from the Dark Star come almost entirely from the doubled plane. Check what the furniture will carry before delivery: at this weight it is the limiting part.
Transrotor sums the Reference up in one line: imposing as it looks, it plays light. The mass serves quiet running, not the character of the sound. The deck arrives without arm or cartridge, to be configured with us.
