This set fits the MAX Nero with a Rega RB880 arm, an MC Merlo cartridge, an aluminium clamp and the Konstant Eins. Against the SET 2, the arm gains a CAD-designed tube and a lightened vertical bearing, and the cartridge moves to moving coil. Both changes pull the same way: less moving mass.
The MAX Nero is built in polyoxymethylene, a very hard plastic that demands fine-precision machining. Transrotor chose it because it absorbs resonance without flattening the dynamics of good pressings. The standard clamp is steel, against aluminium on the light MAX.
A moving-coil cartridge moves coils lighter than an MM's magnet, which sharpens the reading of attacks. Its output level, though, is lower by more than an order of magnitude. Plan for an MC phono input, or a step-up transformer ahead of an MM input.
The Konstant Eins drives the motor at 33 or 45 rpm with fine adjustment per speed. Tracking force, antiskating, vertical angle and speed are all set in the workshop before shipping, here in Geneva. A badly loaded MC cartridge loses most of what it is paid for.
