This SET 4 differs from the SET 3 in its power supply: the Konstant Reference M-1 replaces the Konstant Eins. Transrotor reports markedly better motor control and speed stability for the Reference series, with 33 and 45 rpm and fine adjustment. The case measures about 17.6 by 17 cm, and 7 high.
The set carries a Rega RB880 arm and an MC Merlo cartridge, fitted to the 9-inch MAX deck. The RB880 pairs a CAD-designed tube with a low-mass vertical bearing, and a phono cable with a two-part connector. The MC cartridge needs a phono input matched to its low output.
Under the set, the MAX keeps its external motor: apart from the belt, nothing connects it to the platter. The chassis is hand-polished solid aluminium, the platter pairs aluminium with acrylic. The arm base adjusts continuously and takes a second base.
The point of a set lies in the setup as much as in the parts. Tracking force, antiskating, vertical tracking angle and speed are all done in our Geneva workshop before the deck leaves. The aluminium record clamp is part of the delivery.
