Transrotor MAX 9 Zoll set with arm and cartridge fitted

One step above

This set fits the 9-inch MAX deck with a Rega RB880 arm, an MC Merlo cartridge, an aluminium clamp and the Konstant Eins. Compared with the SET 2, arm and cartridge are what change: RB330 becomes RB880, and MM becomes MC. Deck and power supply stay the same.

The Rega RB880 arm

The RB880 uses a CAD-designed tube to cut internal stress and resonance, on a low-mass vertical bearing. Its integrated phono cable uses a two-part connector assembly, which keeps the number of contacts on the signal path low. Mounting distance 222 mm, effective length 236.5 mm.

A moving-coil cartridge

The MC Merlo is a moving-coil cartridge. Its coils are lighter than an MM's magnet, which lightens the moving part and sharpens tracking on transients. In return, output level is lower: an MC phono input or a step-up transformer is needed.

Supply and setup

The Konstant Eins drives the motor at 33 or 45 rpm, with fine adjustment specific to each speed. It puts out two phases of 18 volts AC from a solid aluminium case of about 1.5 kg. The set is fitted, aligned and commissioned in our Geneva workshop.
