The Dark Star's chassis, motor and platter are made of polyoxymethylene. Transrotor founder Jochen Räke worked this material in depth for the first time on this deck. POM absorbs resonance instead of returning it to the platter, and it machines to tight tolerances.
The platter is six centimetres thick. Its mass holds the rotation once running and damps the motor's micro-variations. A POM and brass record clamp, matched to the platter, ships with the deck.
The Dark Star arrives as a base deck, without tonearm or cartridge. Transrotor assembles every turntable by hand and leaves the choice of arm, cartridge and power supply to the buyer. Fitting and alignment are done in our Geneva workshop.
The deck measures 46 cm wide, 34 deep and 17 high, and weighs 24 kg. Plan for a support that stays put: at this mass the furniture becomes the weak link. The Dark Star can later be upgraded to the Reference version, whose base plate is doubled.
