The CS 518’s tonearm rests on a twin gimbal mounted on four precision ball bearings. This design limits lateral play in the cartridge mount and keeps the stylus tip aligned in the groove, whereas an entry-level tonearm tends to wobble. The result: crisp tracking of busy passages and a stereo image that doesn’t close in during loud passages.
The Ortofon 2M Red cartridge is factory-mounted and adjusted, and the switchable MM phono preamp is built into the base. You can connect the turntable to either a line input or a phono input without an external box. The 2M Red’s elliptical stylus delivers an open midrange from well-pressed records without making vocals sound harsh.
The 850-gram cast aluminum platter acts as a flywheel: its mass smooths out the micro-variations of the DC motor, transmitted via a precision belt. The three speeds—33, 45, and 78 rpm—are selected via an electronic selector. Deviation remains within ±0.1% (DIN).
The MDF base is finished with a walnut veneer and sits on 62-mm elastomer feet that isolate the turntable from the furniture. A dust cover is included. The CS 518 features the same mechanics as the CS series in a warm finish that complements furniture rather than a black rack.
