Cabasse created The Pearl Pelegrina for its 70th anniversary, naming it after a 55-carat pearl found in 1913. The first 70 pairs carry a numbered brushed aluminium plate on each speaker. Standing 128.4 cm tall and weighing 45 kg, each speaker sits on a stand shaped after the Lissajous figure, the brand's emblem. It is designed and built in Plouzané, Brittany, then tested in an anechoic chamber.
The TCA, a tri-coaxial driver with an aramid diaphragm, places upper bass, midrange and treble on one axis: it is the driver of La Sphère and Baltic 5, driven here by the latest generation of DSP. Below it, a patented 30 cm HELD driver handles the bass. The system covers 10 to 27,000 Hz and reaches 134 dB in stereo.
All the miniaturised electronics sit in the 48 cm diameter base. Four separate amplifiers deliver a total of 3700 W RMS there: 1850 W for the bass, 1250 W for the upper bass, 300 W for the midrange and 300 W for the treble. Cabasse states THD+N distortion of 0.003% and 0.008% at 1 W into 4 ohms.
Each speaker connects over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and also takes USB, S/PDIF optical, an RCA input and a balanced analogue input. The DAC runs at 768 kHz / 32-bit and plays files from MP3 to FLAC, ALAC and DSD 64/128. A built-in microphone measures the room for CRCS automatic calibration, and the StreamCONTROL app manages multiroom.
