Tuned Mass Enclosure

The S-280 is not a bare baffle in a wall: the enclosure is closed and mass-tuned, with two 10-inch passive radiators extending the bass without a port. Response reaches down to 48 Hz at plus or minus 3 dB for only 108 mm of depth.

Two Eight-Inch Woofers

The two 8-inch wood fibre cones work with the hybrid tweeter module, a 29 mm soft dome paired with a 17 x 45 mm ribbon. The crossover sits at 3000 and 15000 Hz, two and a half ways. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms and power handling runs from 40 to 400 W.

Rotatable Tweeter Module

The tweeter module turns within the baffle, so the treble can be aimed at the listening area once the speaker is flush in the wall. On a front pair mounted high, that adjustment is what brings the image back to seated height. Maximum output reaches 112 dB at one metre.

Installation

The cut-out measures 1495 x 495 mm, with a 103 mm mounting depth and a wall thickness range of 10 to 70 mm. The speaker weighs 36.5 kg with its grille. A PHANTOM OW FRAME S-280 is available for surface mounting.
