Uni-Q point source

The 19 mm aluminium dome tweeter sits at the acoustic centre of the 160 mm woofer, so both ranges radiate from the same point. This "sit anywhere" Uni-Q array spreads the sound widely and evenly across the room. The acoustic lobing that troubles separate-driver designs is largely gone, and even coverage takes fewer speakers.

Ultra-thin bezel, magnetic grille

The ultra-thin ABS bezel is no more than 5 mm wide, so once installed the speaker shows little more than an outline on the ceiling. The grille is held by a magnetic circuit, with no visible screws, and lifts off one-handed for servicing. Bezel and grille both take paint to match the ceiling, and a paint shield protects the driver while the work is done.

Ceiling or wall mounting

The speaker flush-mounts in a square cut-out, in a ceiling or in a wall, over a mounting depth of 91 mm from the surface. The chassis is open-backed and uses the plenum volume behind it. KEF offers the RIF160S rough-in frame for new-build sites and the RNC160S rear enclosure wherever a sealed volume is needed, ideally 25 litres and 15 litres at the very least.

Weather-resistant build

The Tangerine Waveguide caps the tweeter, shields it and widens nominal coverage to 125 degrees. Plating and powder coating are UV-treated and the assembly carries IP64 certification, so splashing water has no harmful effect on its components and the speaker can go under a soffit or in a bathroom. At 8 ohms nominal impedance it runs on 10 to 125 W and wires up at the terminals on the back of the chassis.
