The kit combines a transmitter and a receiver shaped as cubes, in cast acrylic cases that echo the lines of REL subwoofers. Each unit measures 7 cm wide, 5.3 cm high and 8.2 cm deep. Their deliberately high mass keeps them in place, even with heavy interconnects attached.
Transmission relies on a third-generation 5.8 GHz chip and REL's own protocol rather than conventional Wi-Fi. The signal arrives uncompressed, with a latency of around 17 ms, over at least 12 m with a clear line of sight. Bass keeps dynamics close to those of a good cable.
The transmitter accepts a pair of stereo RCA inputs, or the right input alone for the .1/LFE signal from a home cinema processor. The receiver passes this signal on to the stereo or LFE input of the subwoofer. Input impedance is 10 kΩ, and each unit runs on 5 V DC from its own mains adapter.
Pairing takes one press on the button of each unit, and it is kept in memory after a power cut. The kit is intended for Serie HT subwoofers and similar REL models. Two mains adapters and two 2 m RCA cables are supplied.
