In Home Theater Bypass mode, relays wire the inputs directly to the outputs, and the preamplifier passes the signal through without being switched on. This mode includes RCA and XLR outputs for two subwoofers. The preamplifier also creates up to 30 virtual inputs and adjusts the level of each analog input to match the sources.
Asynchronous 32-bit / 192 kHz sample rate conversion optimizes the anti-imaging filter and reclocks the data, which then escape the jitter of the sources. The asynchronous USB input accepts PCM up to 32-bit / 384 kHz and DSD, and the coaxial, optical and AES/EBU inputs go up to 192 kHz. Thin-film resistors and very low-noise operational amplifiers equip the whole conversion stage.
The MM and MC phono inputs are shielded, and the phono curve adjusts continuously to play records that predate the RIAA standard. Bass management accepts one or two subwoofers, or two independent subwoofers for the left and right channels. With ARC Genesis and its four storable profiles, the subwoofers blend into the room.
The preamplifier comes in Black or Silver, to match the STR power amplifier. The graphic display on the front guides navigation, and control is by the IR remote, Ethernet or RS-232. The chassis measures 43.2 cm wide, 9.9 cm high and 37.7 cm deep, and weighs 7.6 kg unpacked.
